Sharp TR-173
"COLLIE"

Sharp TR-173 - face

The TR-173 is a stylish horizontal coat-pocket radio from 1958. The face plate that surrounds the chrome-plated speaker grille is reverse painted in white, gold, black and red. The tuning dial is also reverse-painted in ivory colour to highlight the waffle-like texturing on the back of the dial knob. Note the absence of CD marks and also that Sharp liked to use coloured leather on their carrying cases.

The cabinet proper, (not including the face plate) is the same as used on the Sharp TR-180 "COLLIE A" and on a couple of OEM radios Sharp made for Airline and possibly other makers. To date, I have seen the cabinet in black, the blue shown here, and in salmon pink.
