The photos tell the story. Two chips in the reverse-painted panel, the plastic bar that received the screw to secure the front panel was broken off, and tape had eaten into the surface plastic of the reverse-painted panel and the cabinet. A true case of a radio crying out for love.
Sorry I didn't take photos during the restoration process, but the following page shows the resurrected radio with another nice transistor set of same era.
